The Pakistan Welfare Association is a non-political, non-sectarian, cultural and educational organisation in Southampton, Hampshire. As a well-known, trusted Pakistani community organisation we represent the residents of Southampton and surrounding areas. As compassionate professionals, we undertake responsibilities for those unable to speak English, and we aid underprivileged members of the community.
Pakistan Welfare Association (PWA) strives to make a positive difference while representing the Pakistani community.
At the outset, the PWA had no premises or resources, and initial meetings were held at the homes of the founding members. Since beginning as a community association operating from members’ homes, we have expanded to involve Southampton’s community.
Our initiative to form the association arose out of growing concerns that local Pakistani community members were facing exclusion in key areas. These areas included health, housing, education, and employment.
At this time, it appeared there was a threat of permanency, which would reduce opportunity for the following generation. Because of this, we were inspired to take serious remedial action to tackle the root cause. Our founding members put together a mission statement, and thus formed the PWA.
Today, the PWA is becoming increasingly active in helping to tackle local issues. Our dedicated members actively campaign for positive social change, and our inclusive association takes pride in its efforts to involve all members.
We welcome all generations of Pakistani individuals, who throughout the years have become resident and settled in Southampton.
To help the community to meet its needs; and to liaise with the community, the local government, and non-governmental organisations. To educate, motivate, and empower the community.
Devoted to our mission, we aim to accomplish set goals. Our objectives are outlined as follows:
Become a valued member of our organisation and take part in the stimulating cultural activities we offer. You do not need any qualifications to become a member, and you are welcome to join us whatever your age.
Enthusiastic to promote the presence of young people within our organisation, we encourage Pakistani youths to get in touch with our friendly Committee Members. Membership is paid annually.
